Bluebird Behavioral Health provides evaluation and medication management for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of mental health and behavioral health needs, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, sleep difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, changes in behavior or functioning, and mental health concerns associated with traumatic brain injury.
Bluebird also has specialized experience supporting individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), complex medical or developmental needs, and significant behavioral concerns. We understand that changes in mood, behavior, or functioning can have many contributing factors and take time to understand the whole person—including medical and developmental history, communication style, sensory needs, environment, medications, daily functioning, and individual strengths.
Care is individualized to you or the person you care for. When appropriate and with consideration for the individual's needs and preferences, treatment may also include collaboration with caregivers, therapists, medical providers, schools, care managers, and other members of the support team.

No. While Bluebird Behavioral Health has specialized experience caring for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), complex needs, and significant behavioral concerns, you do not need to have a developmental disability to receive care.

Our specialized experience simply means we're comfortable providing care when the picture is more complex—and we believe everyone benefits from care that considers the whole person, their individual strengths, needs, experiences, and goals.

Yes! Communication differences should not be a barrier to receiving thoughtful mental health care.
We take time to understand how you or the person you care for communicates best. This may include spoken language, AAC, gestures, behavior, caregiver input, or other forms of communication. Communication preferences, processing time, sensory needs, and individual strengths are considered throughout care.
-
Generally, yes. The person receiving care should be available for their scheduled appointment so an appropriate clinical assessment can be completed.
We recognize that participation may look different for each person, particularly for individuals with communication differences or significant support needs. Caregivers and support persons may assist when appropriate.
Dedicated Caregiver & Family Consultations are also available for established patients when additional time is needed to discuss concerns separately.
-
Yes, when appropriate. Parents, guardians, caregivers, residential staff, or other trusted support persons may participate when their involvement is helpful to the individual's care and appropriate consent or authorization is in place.
Whenever possible, the individual receiving care remains at the center of the conversation and treatment decisions.
-
Before your first appointment, you will receive an intake form by email to complete. This helps us learn more about you or the person you care for before we meet.
If available, helpful records may include:
Current medication list
Previous mental health or developmental evaluations
Psychological or neuropsychological testing
Relevant medical records
Recent laboratory results
Previous medication trials
Hospital or discharge summaries
IEP or other educational information, when relevant
Guardianship or decision-making documentation, when applicable
Records and documents can be securely uploaded through the patient portal prior to your appointment.
Don't worry if you don't have everything available. You do not need to gather every previous record in order to schedule or attend your first appointment.
-
Yes, medications may be prescribed through telehealth when clinically appropriate and permitted by current federal and New York State laws and regulations.
A prescription is never guaranteed as a result of an appointment. Medication recommendations are based on an individualized clinical assessment, safety considerations, monitoring requirements, and the needs of the person receiving care.
Additional requirements may apply to certain medications, including controlled substances.
-
Medication is only one possible part of mental health care.
If medication is not appropriate or is unlikely to address the concern, we will discuss other recommendations. These may include therapy, behavioral supports, medical evaluation, environmental or sensory modifications, additional testing, or referral to another provider or service.
The goal is to determine what makes sense for you or the person you care for, rather than prescribing medication simply because an appointment was scheduled.
-
Follow-up frequency is individualized.
Appointments may be more frequent when starting or changing a medication or when symptoms, behaviors, or side effects require closer monitoring. Once treatment is stable, visits may be spaced farther apart when clinically appropriate.
-
Yes. Laboratory testing may be ordered when clinically appropriate for medication monitoring, evaluation of symptoms, or treatment planning.
Depending on the test, you may be able to complete laboratory work at a local laboratory or through your primary care provider.
-
Forms, letters, and other documentation may be completed for established patients when clinically appropriate and when sufficient information is available to support the request.
Some requests may require a separate appointment, additional record review, or an administrative fee. Completion of a particular form, letter, certification, or requested recommendation cannot be guaranteed.
-
We understand that unexpected things happen. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice or missed without notice may be subject to a $75 late cancellation/no-show fee.
We understand that emergencies and unexpected circumstances occur and these situations may be considered on an individual basis.
Providing advance notice allows us to offer that appointment time to another person or family who may be waiting for care.
